Movie Reviews – Movies That Teach The Value Of Faith

Two powerful movies recently released on DVD to illustrate the importance of faith and virtue in leading a good life.

A ‘Mother Teresa’ tells the life story of one of the world’s best known and most admired women, “End of the Spear” is the story of five American missionaries to the Waodani Indians of Ecuador jungle.

Mother Teresa was an Albanian-born nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity. Known as “Angel of Mercy”, many people saw as the incarnation of a holy life. Her work among the poverty of Calcutta made her one of the most famous in the world. She founded her order in 1950 to care whom he calls “the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers, all those people who feel rejected, ignored, forgotten in society, people which have become a burden to society and are rejected by all. ”

Golden Globe-winner Olivia Hussey illuminates the holy woman in history to “Mother Teresa,” a feature film by Fox Home Entertainment DVD. A shrewd diplomat and an indomitable force, Mother Teresa would not accept what others thought impossible, fearlessly fighting for the love and oblivion.

In 1956 a small group of missionaries sought to illuminate the darkest of Ecuador cannibal tribes, but by his compassion, were murdered without mercy. Years later, the wives of the dead returned to the village to continue their husbands’ missionary work, to bring their children to live among the tribes in the hope of forgiveness through the natives might find faith.

Now, Jim Hanon tells this remarkable true story of fear, faith and forgiveness in the “End of the Spear”, based on the book “Through Gates of splendor” by Elisabeth Elliot, widow of one of the missionaries.

The film tells the story of the Waodani warrior Mincayani, who kills Steve Saint’s father and four other missionaries. Steve returns to the Waodani as an adult and encounters Mincayani they face with the meaning of life and death of the father of Steve and other men who were killed. Through Mincayani, Steve comes to forgive, through Steve, Mincayani comes to understand the teachings of the Bible and a path to a virtuous life.

Movies: VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray

Making human activity more productive is the task of technology. The task of marketing is to convince us to upgrade said technology ad museum. As Microsoft has learned — the hard way, mind you — you cant convince people to scramble for the latest version of an operating system whenever it suits Mr. Gates’s whim. Hello open-source and cloud computing. That being said, there are some facets of technological upgrades that are hard to resist, especially when they offer superior sound or graphics.

Given our propensity towards visual stimulation, it’s more difficult to resist superior picture quality as opposed to say a faster computation speed for your word processor. This is why the death of the DVD seems inevitable in the face of the emerging Blu-ray technology. With a slight tweaking of the color spectrum, Blu-ray has rendered conventional DVD players as hard to watch as VHS. Hard to believe, but true.

The blue laser readers (hence the name Blu-ray) render HD quality films and sound, while condensing all that data more efficiently on the disc. This means two and three disc boxed sets will be far more rare — either that or studios will release even more bonus materials. Perhaps they will feature every facet of the films production, from pitch to screen, including actor auditions.

A lauded selling point is the alleged durability of the Blu-ray disc. While a typical CD disc can still provide decent sound quality even when scratched, a scratched DVD disc seldom performs well. The tiniest scratch can derail and entire film. The Blu-ray, disc, allegedly, is far more durable and even enjoys a buffering layer to protect the data. Whether or not this stands up to public scrutiny, it does makes for an attractive bullet point on the proverbial PowerPoint presentation that is mass marketing.

The fact that new technological breakthroughs are marketed in terms of revolutions is telling. Each new device requires that it wrap itself in something as violent and encompassing as a revolution to ensure we feel the urgency. What’s the rush? Why, the corporate bottom-line of course. Hurry and buy before — well, before what? If the technology is worthwhile, it should stay on the market. Given the impressive qualities of Blu-ray technology, it should be well entrenched for any and all takers.

Movie Reviews: Backstreet Boys This Is Us They Are Back And Better Than Ever

The Backstreet Boys were put together back in 1993, by Lou Pearlman, when boy bands were all the rage and heard non stop on every radio station. Back then the band consisted of five talented members Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell, who stole the hearts of teenage girls. In 2006 Richardson had left the group, with the hopes up starting a family; however his fellow band members still believe that he will make a comeback debut sometime in the future.

Once again the Backstreet Boys have worked together, minus Richardson, to bring us their seventh, and said to be best, album yet. “This Is Us” is scheduled to be released by RCA Records, in the European areas, on October 5th. The United Stated release, by Jive Records, is scheduled for the following day.

Trying to regain some of their lost momentum since their incredible Millennium album hit the charts in 1999 with hits like I Want It That Way and All I Have To Give, they are once again collaborating with producer Max Martin who was responsible for the I Want it That Way hit track.

In addition to collaborating with Max Martin, The Backstreet Boys also recruited help from Red One, producer/songwriter. Red One was able to assist Lady Gag with her hit singles “Poker Face” and “Just Dance”, so The Backstreet Boys wanted the same success. Therefore Red One worked with the band and produced the albums lead track, “Straight Through My Heart”.

Although The Backstreet Boys have had many failed attempts at solo careers and albums, it is said that “This Is Us” is the album that will put them back on the charts again. With thirteen hits in the top 40 and over 100 million albums sold during their career, it appears that they are due for another hit sometime soon.
